Hi, I’m Emily! I started Sunyata Counseling after years of experience sitting with others in their suffering, as well as continued study in western and eastern philosophies on healing and happiness. Sunyata is a Sanskrit word meaning emptiness, but not in a bleak or hollow sense. Instead it points to the freedom that comes when we loosen our grip on fixed ideas of who we are and how things are.

In both Buddhist wisdom and modern psychology, we see how much of our suffering comes from old stories and meanings we’ve attached to ourselves. Sunyata reminds us that these stories are not the whole truth and that our identities, thoughts, emotions, and experiences are always able to change.

From this understanding, space opens for compassion, curiosity, and new ways of being. Sunyata speaks to the heart of therapy itself, which is the process of softening what’s conditioned and rediscovering the fluid, living self beneath it all.

My goal is to assist my clients in untangling from their suffering and creating a life a that feels more peaceful and authentic to who they are.

In my free time I enjoy creating art, practicing yoga, spending time with loved ones, and watching standup comedy. I live in the mountains of Colorado with my husband and my dog. Cora.
